Joining Team Lally in this episode is Alec Sou, a member of the Sou family, who immigrated to Hawaii from Laos via a refugee camp on the Thailand-Laos border. The family settled in Waianae in 1977 and began to farm on 5 acres of leased land in the Lualualei Valley. Alec will discuss how their farm quickly grew from an 18-acre-family farm to a commercial operation by summer of 1996. He will also discuss how the tradition of the Pumpkin Festival started and also how Hawaiian produc export has increased over the years.

Who is Alec Sou?
 

Alec Sou is the General Manager of Aloun Farms, a family business that started when they settled in Waianae in 1977 and began to farm on 5 acres of leased land in the Lualualei Valley. Currently, Aloun Farms provides full-time employment to 180 people and has expanded production to approximately 3,000 acres (Ewa Plains, Kunia, Waipio and Helemano).
